CHAPTER 43: RELINQUISHING RESPONSIBILITY/DELEGATION 2024
Every company owner expects to hire people to do the job and those people, without any supervision, will do their job and accomplish success allowing the business to continually “just send more money to the boss.”
That is a misconception, lie, incorrect thinking, mistake, bad thought, recipe for disaster and above all things, for the CEO, an absolute financial death trap for the company and for the owner, you’re headed for personal loan guarantees, SBA, lines of credit and hard money because of an error in judgement mistakenly described as “growth, family and even God.” Somehow a fiduciary has left someone in charge that shouldn’t be in charge, and one way or another at some point a decision like that causes mayhem. If your eyes aren’t on your company, your eyes are not seeing what needs to be seen, period. Let’s make it clear from the perspective of the world, government and power over the people. You give up your vote, your gun and your independence, you lose. You vote for the wrong guy and he gets in, it’s all bad. Any different than a company? No, it is not, I’ll show you, but first let’s remind ourselves of what happens in democracy when the people let go of the vote.
“Weak, worthless, and wicked men, will thrust themselves into power; and, in the end, bring ruin upon themselves, and on the unhappy people over whom they preside.” (Clarke, one of my favorite old time clergyman)
Your company is the same way, you don’t pay attention, who’s running the show? Who did you leave in charge? Also, when thinking about government, think about violence, without correct delegation, you will find yourself in a violent country, as many are right now all over the world. Who is in power? I’ll tell you, someone you don’t want to depend on. Any different than your company? You won’t know until you have a lawsuit on your desk.
The problem of following a man who comes to power through violence? It is only a matter of time until the same violence is turned against those who helped him come to power.
You still have your votes, at least here in America, we hope. This applies to government only? Or does it? What happens when you allow a customer not to pay you, again and again and again without collection? Still you bid jobs from this person. For fear that you might not work? Work for who? A menace! And you are now under the hand of a dictator, threatening your survival. If that happens in your business, who is responsible? You!
Proverbs 25:26
English Standard Version
Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain
is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.
Now let’s talk about delegation, if you do it wrong, you relinquish your responsibility. If you can walk away from the business for any reason, are you walking away from stress or God? One is for health reasons and one is disobedient. I don’t believe in stress as a victim.
I believe stress happens when I don’t do things I know I should.
Disobedience is just kissing off a great job because you don’t feel like it, for whatever reason. Doesn’t matter in this lesson, if that be you, it’s over anyway, no need to listen another second. Pressure, on the other hand is something else. I don’t want stress, so I work the list of things that need to be done. I have pressure in my job, that’s different than stress. Pressure to do the work I get to do, I love to do, I’m so thankful for. Not everybody gets to own a company. Not everybody who has a company gets to keep it. A breach of fiduciary duty could mean that you have delegated tasks of authority and they failed. That’s your fault and when I watch it happen, what can happen?
“Those who breach their fiduciary duty, cease to exist.”
A company fades away and the owner, the legend in the mind, disappears. It’s over, left with nothing more than the memory of being special, without being special anymore. Stay the course, work the day, in chores given by God. Let Him lead the next assignment.
Jeremiah 45:5
New King James Version
5 And do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them; for behold, I will bring adversity on all flesh,” says the Lord. “But I will give your life to you as a prize in all places, wherever you go.”
Get it? God’s way rocks, my way just rolls away. Something that crosses my mind. Life is short, how much time do I have to do what? I could teach my children to hunt, work, love God and prosper through the Word of God and their own hands. I could pay for their college, if they let me help them choose wisely, not foolishly. I only have a short time, best I use it right.
Psalm 90:12-17
New International Version
Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
People have good reasons to excuse themselves from responsibility and delegate to employees. Good reasons to disobey and throw away the authority God has given. DO THAT AT YOUR OWN RISK!! Well, then Mr. Pat Know it All, how do I take a break and stay in the game? Glad you ask. Jesus is the example of recess time for a soldier of the Lord.
Luke 5:16 English Standard Version (ESV)
16 But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray.
You notice scripture doesn’t mention going to Monaco for a two-week fun-in-the-sun vacation. Jesus would pray. Elijah, one of the greatest Prophets had a bad day, a real bad day. Elijah was a hunted man and he was tired of running.., “needed a break.”
1 Kings 19:4-8
New King James Version
And he prayed that he might die, and said, “It is enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!” 5 Then as he lay and slept under a broom tree, suddenly an [b]angel touched him, and said to him, “Arise and eat.” 6 Then he looked, and there by his head was a cake baked on [c]coals, and a jar of water. So he ate and drank, and lay down again. 7 And the [d]angel of the Lord came back the second time, and touched him, and said, “Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you.” 8 So he arose, and ate and drank; and he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights as far as Horeb, the mountain of God.
Elijah, took a break and God knows he needed one. A little prayer, lunch and back on the path. I take a lesson from this scripture.
So what about delegation? Necessary. Jesus used delegation with His team — but he never left them. If you do delegation correctly you do not relinquish responsibility.
Jesus delegated authority, but He never left them, He was there to oversee — and by the way when Jesus left for Heaven, He did not leave mankind alone, the Holy Spirit descended from heaven and is with you here today. Nobody took two weeks to go to the club, anywhere in scripture.
Matthew 10:16
New Living Translation
16“Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves.
Verse 20 continues: For it is not you who will be speaking—it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
Now that’s Delegation! However, you do notice what the last line says, ‘it will be the spirit of your father speaking through you.’
Never alone. Jesus did not delegate and then take a trip to the Bahamas. He stayed tight with His team.
Matthew. 28:18-20
“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
The myth that someone else can do your job is just that – a myth. To rest is one thing. Leaving your post is quite another. Obedience is doing what is right when you’d rather do something else. God’s Will is generally doing what you don’t want to do. When you do it, however, it feels much better, less stress.
Psalm 40:8
New Living Translation
I take joy in doing your will, my God,
for your instructions are written on my heart.”
Giving the job to someone else, without proper supervision is not, not, not profitable.
Luke 16:10 New Living Translation (NLT)
10 “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.
Eleanor Roosevelt once said: In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.
Like I said, not many people have a company, and not many people get to keep a company. Why? Responsibility is a hard task master. Free will allows all of us to fail at our own rate or give God the Glory. God gives us the choice.
Matthew 7:13-14
New International Version
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
George Bernard Shaw said, and I quote; “Liberty means responsibility. That is why most men dread it.”
You have been given the job of Watchman. What’s that?
Ezekiel 33:4-6
New International Version
4 then if anyone hears the trumpet but does not heed the warning and the sword comes and takes their life, their blood will be on their own head. 5 Since they heard the sound of the trumpet but did not heed the warning, their blood will be on their own head. If they had heeded the warning, they would have saved themselves. 6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes someone’s life, that person’s life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.’
Lead, teach and inspire through your own example of standing with your team, company, family, church.
Age Before Beauty
One must put in the time and process of learning to enjoy the consequence of success. You gotta put in the time to be great.
If this chapter is too much for you, sell your company and get a regular job. Tell God you’re sorry that you can’t handle the Miracles and Blessings given to you. He will still love you, but after a while you might not love you.
Deuteronomy 29:29
New King James Version
29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
You are the boss, it is revealed to you, why wouldn’t you utilize the Lord to be a better boss?
Isaiah 46:11b
New King James Version
11b
Indeed I have spoken it;
I will also bring it to pass.
I have purposed it;
I will also do it.
This stuff is huge! Micro-manage each area of your life. Pray and study over all of it, all the time, everyday, every minute, so that you have scripture in your heart and the power of God in your authority over what He has given you.
2 Peter 1:19-20
New King James Version
19 [a]And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; 20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private [b]interpretation,
There is nothing in that book that is written by private interpretation and all prophecy in it has been true so far, unlike any other book, anywhere. And as we enter this time of the world falling into great upheaval, know that God has given you this company, balance sheet, family, every dollar to deal with today, yes today, not in preparation for tomorrow, in conclusion of one day in order to start the next adventure as God allows in tomorrow. Understand what I’m saying. He gives you money and He will direct you, it is for your well being today. If there’s any left, let the Holy Spirit direct you tomorrow. Who wants to be on vacation when Jesus drops by to pick you up? The world is nuts, man, and any war could put the whole thing upside down — and it’s happening right now, in our economy and in our country. Don’t pretend like everything’s A>O>K!
Luke 21:28a and 34-36
New International Version
28 When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
34-36 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. 35 For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. 36 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”
Matthew 24:7
New International Version
7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
Delegate wisely with your eyes on all people under your authority, never leave your post.
Even if you have a change in scenery, go on a vacation with the family, make a point to stay on-line, phone, emails and collections. Be 100% available to the life God has given and let Him use what He has made in you for His purpose. In the mean time, produce, deliver, collect, lead, teach and inspire. Chapter 43 Relinquishing Responsibility/Delegation 2024, Do not relinquish responsibility and learn “how and when” to delegate chores, not your authority. As I have taught myself to say,
“My name is Patrick and I am responsible…”
in Christ we pray and commend our days…, Amen.
