Chapter 36 “God as a Verb” 2026

This week's chapter from Patrick:

Why should I listen to this chapter?

CHAPTER 36: GOD AS A VERB 2026

Colossians 2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces[a] of this world rather than on Christ.

Being ever vigilant in your life. That is a verb. Being active with God is a verb. The example of God as a verb is God Himself. He is a verb, everything He does, He does for you and me. God is either “all-in” my life, or not at all. God is not a concept to me, He is the reason for everything. It wasn’t always that way. There was a time where God was only a last resort pleading to get me out of trouble or into a magical wish for my dreams to come true. He is none of that and much more than that. He is not a last resort, He is the only resort. He is not here to make my dreams come true, I am here to be part of His dreams. None of this did I get, until I did. I realized that the Blood of Christ saved my soul and there was nothing else to be done for this salvation. Christ did it all. Human psychology continues to search for inside information, a futile practice. God has done it all. What remains in Faith in Him and a life dedicated to His directions. Believe in Christ and by doing so, live a life aligned with Christ. Impossible to do without His help. I am a goofball, plain and simple. I begin doing what scripture directs. This is what I have done, there is no real argument, it is simply what happens to me. However, as stated, it ain’t easy, but it’s easier than trying to explain life to myself without Christ. Without Christ, it’s impossible to explain the horror of this world.

ROMANS 10:9-10 If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

Actions taken describes a verb. It is not a concept, nor is it a design, adverb, pro-noun, noun, adjective or pro-noun. It is simply a verb. An action taken.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

That is a verb. Because of it, there is no one on Earth who has not been made aware of God, certainly not me or you. There is no one on Earth who has not heard of Jesus Christ, the Spirit or the Father. It is universal. The argument is stupid and a waste of time, gaining nothing in the spiritual advancement, knowledge or wisdom of a person. None that I have found.

Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

On a dark day in a single room apartment, I begged God for my life and promised Him that I would follow Him if He would save me. He did. Verb. Action taken. I realize that and am the recipient of that moment, here I am. For all my weakness, sin and struggle, Here He is with me, helping me keep my promise.

Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

I pray, I try, I fail, I try again, repeat. This is action taken, a verb. I’m never going to live up to a promise I made to the Lord and I’m never going to be good enough. I learned and learn everyday, He will help me. No matter how many times I try and fail, He knows I try and He is with me and you.

1 John 3:20: “For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things ..

God is the Verb, himself. I am acting and reacting to God the Verb. He sent the Lord, Jesus. He died for our sins, all of it prophesied of what He would do. Deuteronomy 18, verse 15, a messianic prophecy.

“The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear,

John 16:13: “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.”

God comes, the Holy Spirit is given to provide us direction, correction and love. Then there’s the challenge, right? We have the opportunity of free will. To choose God or not. Stubborn is a verb, stupid is a verb. I am familiar with both, a graduate of the college of self all the way to the end of me. I get it, I understand it and hope that I never find my way back there.

1 Corinthians 1:18-21 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

There is a story, in the time of the cross, where the authorities ordered Jesus to be taken into custody and the soldiers, listening to Jesus, decided to disobey the command. Asked, “why did you not bring Him?” The officers responded..

“No one ever spoke like this man” John 7:46.

These guys understood authority, and they understood the consequences of violating an order. And yet, Jesus, standing in front of them was greater than Rome. It caused a problem. The people realized God was in their midst.

John 7:43 “so a division occurred in the crowd”

Here in 36, God as a verb, His very existence is a colossal Divine action, i.e., verb. There are thousands of words in the book, and hundreds of stories that outline God doing things for His people.

Jeremiah 33:3 Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and [a]mighty things, which you do not know.’

What about me? How do I be a verb? An example of Christ?

Work for God, not for human approval, in everything you do (Colossians 3:23-24, Ephesians 6:7).

Present your life, body, and daily activities to God as a form of spiritual worship (Romans 12:1).

Ensure all service is rooted in love, as actions without love are meaningless (1 Corinthians 13).

Serving people is a direct way to serve God, especially by caring for the vulnerable (Matthew 25:40, Hebrews 13:2).

Serve with joy and humility, acknowledging that God provides the strength (1 Peter 4:11, Psalm 100:2).

Prioritize God: Put God above money and worldly distractions (Matthew 6:24)

“For crying out loud, I’m a company owner,” you might say! “My job is to create better margins, affordable products, profit, cash flow, and that’s before I need houses and cars and insurance, and everything else, not to mention keeping up with the Jones!’”

Luke 22:37 He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.

All of that stuff is God’s blessing to you in a measure that each of us can handle and it is ABSOLUTELY SECOND TO THE WORSHIP OF GOD. What has been given is a design brought to you from the mind of God for you to serve the Lord’s purpose, kingdom work, ministry. THAT IS IT, ET ALL.

For by grace you have been saved [blessed, healed, delivered, made whole] through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 NKJV

“I’m not hearing the answer here,” you might say? Really? God acted on your behalf, gave you a company, life, forgiveness, family, money, challenges that make you better, a book of His words to help you in every situation, past, present and future prophesy, the Holy Spirit to guide you, and the free-will to choose the Lord. His actions towards you, for you, with you, around you, in the past, present and future of you are clear and still you wonder?

Transformation comes from resisting the world’s patterns and aligning your thinking with God’s will (Romans 12:2).

When Scripture dwells in you, it provides the strength to overcome temptation and sin (1 John 2:14),

Knowledge of God (both His attributes and commands) is meant to be applied to daily life, ensuring actions align with biblical principles.

The goal is not just knowing about God, but knowing Him personally (John 17:3), which involves an active, obedient relationship.

If those passages do not ring true for me, I’m alone with what I want, not what He wants. And in that mind set, all I want is for God to give me what I want. Now, I am no longer a verb, I am a concept of something I’ve made up that I should be. A description, nothing more, and much less than what God has planned. God as a verb is a life in motion to obtain, sustain and utilize Grace, knowledge and wisdom give to achieve the original blueprint of me and you. To earn the day, complete the list, humbly, happily, 100% effort.., grateful in the pursuit of taking care of what is given, asking not for more, rather the strength to complete what is given, that is Faith, with a capital F.

Hebrews 11:6: Without faith, it is impossible to please God

Luke 12 “For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”

Matthew 17:20b Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

There are many examples of God Himself as a verb acting on our behalf, and great men of God taking action for God’s purpose. King David’s, Joshua and his conquests led by God, Elijah, Elisha, Gideon, Moses, just to name a few.

One of the greatest of all God’s chosen started off as a Roman soldier, a trained theologian, a Roman force against the christian movement. Jesus spoke to him on the road to Damascus, knocked him from his horse, blinded him, converted him, restored his sight and, Paul converted, became the primary writer of the inspired works of the new testament. He was set straight, and never turned back. His life, writings and actions — all verbs to his final breath, actions taken for God, actions taken by one man.

15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. 16 For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.. Acts 9:15-16 ESV

However, still we doubt the Lord and ourselves. In scripture one example of this is Thomas. John 20:24-29, expresses Thomas’s doubt about the resurrection of Jesus. When Jesus, the risen Christ, appears to Thomas, He tells him; “stop doubting and believe” and “put your finger here and see my hands, Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed”.  Faith, you see, if also a verb, specifically God as a verb. This quote may say it all from Charles Spurgeon.

“I have been thinking of the advantages of my own position towards the Lord, and lamenting with great shamefacedness that I am not bringing forth such fruit to him as my position demands. Considering our privileges, advantages, and opportunities, I fear that many of us have need to feel great searchings of the heart.” (Spurgeon)

Job 5:17 Blessed is the one whom God corrects; so, do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.

I ask myself everyday, must I remain a shadow of what could’ve been, or follow the Lord in light of what will be?
It ain’t roses all the time, however without God,
there’s no rose garden or Gardner…
Get up and carry your cross, be a Verb for Christ as He is for you.

Amen

"The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen."
